Optimism is good for your health and well-being. Studies have shown that people with a positive mindset choose a healthier diet and have a better overall lifestyle. They also tend to be more educated and successful. Most likely, it works in two ways. Optimism creates and maintains good habits, and these good habits lead to a better life and more positive mindset.

You might think that optimism is something you're born with, but it's actually only 25% heritable. That means you can 'train' positive thinking using some relatively easy tools, which should help you stick to your new healthy habits. Here are a few of these tools.

1. Practice positive self-talk

Each time you do something that helps with your new habit, say stuff like "You're doing great!" to yourself. Don't forget about positive self-talk even when you fail. "I tried to meditate, but I got too distracted by my thoughts. At least I tried, and I'm sure I'll do better next time!" This kind of self-talk should help you carry on.

Research has shown that even a small shift in your language towards more positive words that you say to yourself can help you change your behavior.

2. Write down your achievements
It's easy to forget how far you've come if you don't keep track.

4. Smile at your reflection in the mirror every morning

It's a very simple but working trick to become more positive. Remember, to get a positive mindset, it's a nice idea to start from being positive to yourself. Smile at your reflection in the mirror and you will notice how you're smiling more and more to others and the entire world in general.
