Create Your Dream Life

How does responsibility make you happier?

Phrases like "it's not up to me," "it's just circumstance," and "life is unfair" are very common. Statements like these suggest that we don't really determine our lives. And that's a problem.

Many psychologists have found that depression is more likely among those who follow the path of least resistance and react to things as they happen.

Whether you plan your life proactively with tasks and goals or react to life's changes as they arise, both of these styles can seem completely natural. However, the latter often leads to boredom, self-deprecation, and a lack of self-confidence. All of these can add up to unhappiness.

How can you manage your life?

You don't have to work toward becoming an executive at your company if that's not what you want in life. Instead, think about your own, personal grand goal — the direction you would like to move through life (developing technological innovations, combating global warming, etc.) — and stop doing anything that moves you away from it.

You are most likely to be successful if you choose an area that suits your values, current skills, and potential, and then do something useful within that scope.

As the saying goes, "if you find a job that you love, you won't have to work a day in your life." You can apply this saying to different spheres of your life. Try different activities and gain experience. One day you'll find your grand goal and feel more fulfilled.
